We taught her to sing quietly,
to hide her beautiful voice,
We taught her to pray,
to pray for small things,
We taught her classes,
and tried to confine her mind,
She is our big dream,
but we're too afraid to fail.
We hoped she'd become great,
but the size we see scares us.
So we tame her, we cover her
And we tell her it's nothing
Her wings grew,
But we fed our fears and we cut it down
Today she is here,
Doing small things.
May we not live with this,
With memories of unaccomplished dreams.
So we take our bird, we decided to fly,
With painful broken wings,
And for the first time,
we can see
The sky truly is bright and blue,
And has enough space for us.
